Hi all,
can someone help me install a Canon TR4700 printer, please? I tried to run “install.sh” from the package “cnijfilter2-6.30-1-rpm” with no success.
It looks like it cannot find the printer on my network.
On the contrary, if I try and run “printer management” under “system” it sees the printer on the network, but then it returns a CUPS “server-error-internal-error”
Any hint?
Thank you in advance

I’m not sure if avahi is normally enabled by default but it it isn’t this might fix your problem.
If this doesn’t work we may need more info:
OM version
Desktop environment
Are you connecting via wifi or cable
Where did you get the rpm, I have read in other threads that rpms can be specific to a disrobution so there could be dependency problems if it wasn’t packaged for OM, I could be wrong about this maybe someone will clarify. Hopefully this will get you started.
Since you write in English, moved to main Support forum category.
For my TR4722, I just connect it to the wireless network and use driverless/IPPEverywhere. We don’t support their software, only what we package.
In my system avahi is enabled and running.
My pc is connected to the router via cable, while the printer uses wifi.
I would avoid using rpm, so I would like to configure my printer with the system printer settings, which is able to find my printer over my network.
My OM Rome uses Kernel 6.14.2 release 3 and KDE.
Hope these info may be useful to find a solution
Just to let anyone know that I solved it.
I downloaded a source files package from the official Canon support site and loaded a printer specific ppd driver in the CUPS administration page (http://localhost:631/admin)
This was the only way to let it print.
Scanner will be next…
Link?
This is the link to the Italian support page where one can download drivers for different Linux versions
https://www.canon.it/support/consumer/products/printers/pixma/tr-series/pixma-tr4750i.html?type=drivers&os=all
I downloaded the “IJ Printer Driver v. 6.30 for Linux (source)”
https://www.canon.it/support/consumer/products/printers/pixma/tr-series/pixma-tr4750i.html?type=drivers&detailId=tcm:80-2160936&os=all&language=&productTcmUri=tcm:80-2131937
Maybe it is OT, but I just wanted to let you know that the scanner of this multifunction printer works properly with Sane with no need of any driver.
Thank you very much, from the posterity ![]()
