Currently trying OpenMandriva on a live usb. I gotta say, even though I’ve never been a KDE fan because of the bloat, it is working really well. I need to know, however, if I replace my / partition, which currently contains manjaro, xfce, and which I mostly just use Hyprland or some other WM on top of, if there will be any issues in the conversion. I’m debating if I should go bare metal or not. Also, what’s up with all the rust hate?
Your root directory is the OS, so replacing it would remove manjaro, xfce, and hyprland. Backup your hyprland configs and you can just use those on OpenMandriva. I don’t know what kind of trouble you were anticipating with replacing the root directory.
Rust is a cult that the people in the C/C#/C++ cult hate. That is the only reason and anyone who says otherwise is just brainwashed by one of these two cults.
Also, welcome to OpenMandriva!
Welcome! We are happy to see you and we hope you will decide to make this your home.
I had to enable extras repository to install xclip, and now I am able to run pass -c.
Welcome to OpenMandriva!
First welcome to OpenMandriva.
My dislike of rust is mainly two pronged. First are the Rust zellots who seem to think it’s going to solve every possible problem. Second, it’s a royal pain to package The dependency system will quickly pull the entire world in, but not just the world, multiple versions of the world
The second issue isn’t just a rust issue. It seems to be the modern way of writing code I’m looking at you Go! And, I actually like writting go. I just prefer not to due to some of the long term issues it creates.
I’m no Rust zealot—despite my handle—nor a cat-eared, pink-haired devotee, but after tinkering with Rust for a few years, I’d say your take rings true. I don’t get why the Rust-for-Linux crew insists on assimilating Linux like some Borg collective when they could just lean into projects like Redox OS, which is already building a Rust-based kernel from the ground up. Why wrestle a square peg into a round hole when you could craft a whole new board instead?
