Hello all. Yet another Lunduke OM move

Hello from Thomas!
How on earth do you guys do this with a part time team of 7 did I read somewhere in here? When Canonical dumps how much money into Ubuntu; Red H. has IBM, and all the other distros and their money; I’m amazed.

Coming from the older Mac world. Newest is a 2015 MBP. Have wanted to move to Linux for a long time due to Apple’s soldered on SSD’s in particular, serialized parts, and the screen watching AIs that are on the horizon with Mac and Windows. Kids spilling hot chocolate over the keyboard requiring a trip to Louis Rossman for repair gave me just the excuse I needed to REALLY give OM a try; and it’s working fantastic.

Earliest memories are playing Ladder and Clone on my dad’s Kaypro, and spent countless hours navigating DOS and playing 2D Dos games. Once Windows came around, I learned to not “mess around too much” or my dad would have to spend hours of troubleshooting to fix things. So I learned to be scared of computers, and never learned much aside from basic usage. Therefore, when I got my first computer it was one of those white plastic Macbooks because “they didn’t get viruses” and I’ve been on Mac ever since. Still detest windows to this day although I know it’s night and day to the early days.

Auto populating the below list is very smart. I’ve had a long message half written out for two weeks that I just now deleted and turned it into an introduction post.
Requirements:
I have Searched the forum for my issue and found nothing related or helpful
I have checked the Resources category (Resources Index)
I have reviewed the Wiki for relevant information
I have read the the Release Notes and Errata

In particular, having the links in one place sent me to all the correct starting points to read. Also Grok. Alot of Grok.

Before I knew what Gnome even was I was never impressed with it. I had played a bit with a Ubuntu/Gnome equipped computer, and it just felt soulless idk why. A buddy set me up with Kubuntu at one point; meh. Somewhere in there I played with a Cinimon DE. Then I started seeing the discrimination lawsuits against IBM and Red Hat, and the state of many dev teams out there and ouch… I don’t hate anybody, but I’m tired of being hated for just being me. Started wondering if I’d just stick with old Mac hardware a little longer.

Then Lunduke introduced Open Mandriva over a couple of videos and I wanted to give it a try. It’s been perfect! Soooo love it. Not even knowing what KDE was before, I love it now. I’m not after a minimalism OR maximalist DE philosophy; my philosophy is “I’m trying to get work done and if I have to hunt and install plugins to access basic settings that’s stupid for me” lol. My hardware is still ancient. It’s a Latitude 7450 i7 from 2014 I think. An old business laptop, yet it’s fine for what I’m doing; nothing is heavy and demanding. The 2015 MBP is still with Louis Rossman so this has been an excellent learning because I have to situation.

The forum is so great, thank you all. I’ve enjoyed quietly reading around. With Grok and research, I’ve answered every question I’ve come across, so finally I figured I should just write an intro post. So hello from me! I love to ski and snowboard, mountain bike, play with Ham radio and lately a bit of Meshtastic, love to build things, drive R/C cars, planes, and race-quads, roast my own coffee, love computer humor (Telegram Programmer Jokes anyone??) and in general have way too many hobbies in addition to work and family lol.

My next OM project will be to install Rock (Main partition is Rome) on a different drive partition and play with the legacy Nvidia drivers a bit (GPU is just turned off entirely right now. Nouveau hung at boot and I made a delightful mess of crud everywhere after a failed attempt at compiling the .run Nvidia 470 driver ). I probably also should switch to Rock on this main install when the distros align; probably no reason to have a 2014 computer trying to be bleeding edge??? Idk. Open to input on that.

That’s it. Sorry to be long winded. I have just enjoyed reading everyone else in here and wanted to say hi. Hope you’re weekend has been great so far.

Cheers.

I have been on many many user groups/forums, etc over the years. Caustic is the norm, not the exception.

This forum is heaven on earth (well not quite heaven… But as a figure of speech it’s amazing lol)!

There’s no place like this place. Have you seen the Linux is Toxic thread. People of all types jumped in there and made it one of the funniest things I have ever read. It will take a while to get through it, but well worth the time.

Oh awesome no I definitely didn’t see that one yet! Yeah I’ve been doing alot of reading whenever I have some spare time  Thanks for that link.

ALSO, you had those super fun OM wallpapers on the WP thread and you said they were linked on your github; but I couldn’t seem to find your GH link on your profile; could you share it??

I had changed the email and did not realize it unlinked the GitHub account. Thanks for letting me know to fix it.

I have another one rendering right now.
