Hardware Compatibility List?

:bookmark_tabs: Background: I have a few devices that I am testing OM-5 slim, and to my surprise an old Lenovo x230t (i7) just works with default bios settings plus it’s fast which makes it fun. That got me thinking about the canonical hardware compatibility list found here, and if OpenMandriva had something similar. I searched the forums and the web for such a list without any luck. If it exists, where?

If this does not exist, as I suspect, then is this something that we can do as a community? While we should not “certify” the hardware we could acknowledge compatibility. I can help provide a post-installation “opt-in” script that checks and captures the hardware information and loads into a web-form for review and subsequent dissemination.

This script, to my imagination, could then be used by the OS Devs to trigger a post-install device specific scripts for those pesky “non-free” but n00b necessary drivers for installation. The convenience of which should help with end-user adoption.

Thoughts?

I understand what you would like to see, but we are a small distro and don’t have enough people to do something like that, however we provide a LIVE environment USB drive that will allow anyone to test their hardware before installing OpenMandriva.

If you build it, I will opt-in on all of my machines and provide as much info as you ask for.

That’s awesome! Thanks!

I’ll also opt-in only if it’s for hardware. No capturing of software info, networking info, etc. This is a good idea.

agreed
