(gnome-software) packagekit daemon disappeared

Hello, i am actually on openmandriva 6 gnome, and loving it, also the yum extender is very very nice, but i would like to use gnome-software and it does not work

it installs flatpaks fine, but everytime i try an rpm it throws me a notification saying “packagekit daemon disappeared”

how do i solve this?i tried reinstalling packagekit but didn’t help

any suggestion?

We tend to shy away from packagekit and things that use it because it doesn’t do a good job of keeping it’s metadata updated or in sync with the repos. So, it would not surprise me if that feature is turned off in gnome-software. We had to patch Discover to deal with how the system gets updated, and that may be true of the GNOME flavor of app store.

ok, so there is no solution to that?apart from using the terminal of course

It appears work was already done to cut packagekit out of the equation:

Without seeing the recipe, I can’t really say if we are building with this daemon or not. @AngryPenguin will be the best resource.

But also, this:

i read that, but i also think that would be shooting themselves in the foots, i’ll be honest

anyway, well if there is a possible build of the packagekit daemon then it’s nice, and i’m not in a hurry, so if there’s no better solution let’s wait that

I mentioned the one that would know the most about it in terms of our GTK packages.

I agree Fedora/RH would be making a huge mistake, but they have been doing a lot of that for over a decade. Which is why IBM bought them.
