Feedback/Suggestion: use OpenMandriva Lx 6.0 KDE

I recently tried OpenMandriva Lx 6.0 KDE & like it
It’s a 10/10 distro I really like it
the look and feel is sort of like if Mageia & OpenSuse had a baby
I would definitely recommend it to people that are using Fedora or Ubuntu
The only downside/negative is I wish OpenMandriva Lx had non-systemd (sysv/openrc) versions or that the installer offered different init choices
hope xlibre becomes a thing & wish you guys luck
keep up the awesome work

Would be nice to have a systemd free version.
I like things the “old” way, sysv, xorg etc…

exactly
that’s the only thing holding me back from going all in & switching to OpenMandriva Lx on all of my machines
for now I’ll just keep using good ol’ reliable PCLinuxOS
I love it & best of all it is systemd free

For OMLx to have multiple init systems would require more developers and maybe more infrastructure than currently exists.

That will not be enough money to do this folks.

Why we used systemd has been explained many times.

  1. OM does not implement many of the worst aspects of systemd. We are selective about what modules we deploy. Yet no one is saying this is perfect. Most everyone would like to see a modern replacement for systemd.
  2. systemd is, as far as OM devs know today, the best of a number of imperfect alternatives. The point is that people always, always, complain about the init system not matter what it is.
  3. People forget that when many Linux distros used sysv people complained about that just as much systemd is complained about today.
  4. OM is definitely not a “do things the old way” distro. We are distinctly the opposite and this is no accident.
  5. What people expect of their computer today is not the same as it was 10 years ago. OMLx is developed for people to use today.

Yes we do things like keeping X11 when a number of other distros have dropped it in favor of Wayland. We do that because we don’t want to see people have to throw out still working electronic devices. We try to strike a balance between sensible implementation of the most modern and useful code and still allowing users that can not or do not want to throw away older hardware to use OMLx.

Ok Understood

These days I’m more of an user than developer/tweaker.
I’m fine now with systemd.
