“We are, of course, a Linux-based project (sadly, currently there’s nothing else with the same level of hardware support), so we certainly use some code from the woke crowd - but in our own project, we’re pretty much the opposite.”

  • Bernhard Rosenkränzer
    President, OpenMandriva Association

Woke: politically liberal or progressive (as in matters [supposed] of racial and social justice) especially in a way that is considered unreasonable or extreme.

  • Merriam-Webster Dictionary

Based: Grounded in reality, fact, or truth. Reflecting actual conditions or circumstances that occur in our reality, especially when said truth is deemed “controversial” or “unacceptable” according to the agenda of those currently in power in our larger society.
(Antonym: Woke)

Introduction

Hi OpenMandriva,

First and foremost, what has brought me here is that OpenMandriva’s leadership has explicitly & very publicly made an anti-woke, pro-based statement. There is no other Linux distribution that has made such a statement. Zero. I’ve wanted to contribute my time and other resources to a freedom software project, but none of the other projects I’ve seen has given me any confidence that my contributions would actually do any good to our larger civilization & global community. This statement was what first keened me towards OpenMandriva, is what has given me the confidence I need in order to invest my time, money, and other resources into a project designed to actually help people. Ultimately speaking, this is what I wish to do. Thank you collectively for being people of awesome character.

Given the news coverage I’ve been exposed to by Bryan Lunduke and others, I cannot express how happy I am to say that: OpenMandriva is based!

At first, I was suspicious of this coverage. I think the forum post that won me over was [Is Open Mandriva planning on dumping Firefox?](I cannot post links for whatever reason, pardon that). There was a user that ultimately, is unimportant, but the response to said user was awesome. I believe Cultural Communism is a huge issue currently in our larger society, and I am happy to see the momentum that is building to finally reject this authoritarian nightmare back into the realm of horrible fan-fiction of the terminally insane.

About me

As stated in the title, I am a:

  • Developer
    • Amateur Web Developer
  • System Administrator
    • I have experience maintaining my own game servers and website
  • Desktop Support Technican
    • I have professional experience (i.e., I get paid to do this) assisting with people on multiple operating systems from a desktop standpoint (Linux-based OSs, Mac, and Windows)
  • Content Creator
    • I have experience making art, music, videos, writing (technical documentation & articles) et cetera.

And much more.

My advocacy and beliefs involve freedom software, stoicism, digital sovereignty, and economic freedom. Being a “good” person requires strength, but the ROI is worth it in the end.

Ultimately speaking, you can find more information on my profile, and anyone is more than welcome to reach out & speak with me directly. I value verbal conversation and that is when I’ve noticed I’ve given the best impressions.

Requests

I’ve done my due diligence to look through Get Involved | OpenMandriva, but I wish to ask from the community: what possible application based on the skills listed would land me the most impact? Whenever possible, I would like to involve myself towards web development side of OM as much as possible as my working goal is become a web developer professionally.

If necessary or constructive, I am more than happy to make this a separate topic.

Conclusion

I am working on installing the ROCK stable release at this time. I will by the end of tomorrow, already rsync’ed my system.

Thank you for your time.

Welcome, and I hope we can help you return to sanity.

If you have a strong support background, we can always use help in Support or the newcomer room on matrix[dot]org:

OpenMandriva

There are other chat rooms you are welcome to join.

Scripting can also lend some experience to learning packaging, but help with the web stuff is a decision for @rugyada. If you do either, we have a Development topic and a Cooker Room

We definitely need more concise, and up to date documentation.
