Description of the issue (screenshots if relevant):
sudo dnf install nvidia then after restart there might black screen with blinking cursor after a few seconds at login screen, or after some time in desktop.
Relevant informations (hardware involved, software version, logs or output…):
Are you using Wayland or x11? If on Wayland, NVIDIA is notorious for causing issues with crashes and the OM Welcome app not working. Try switching to x11 to see if that fixes your issues.
I’m not sure what greeter is. One time there was no crashes at all. Then after restart I enter password then there black screen with text cursor, a login screen/desktop trying to show a few times then it stays with black screen. Sometimes it lets to the desktop then I start browser or something then DE crashes after a few seconds. It’s not 100% same every time.
Do you have more than one monitor connected?
Some users reported that they unplug any secondary monitor and boot was fine. Worth to test, if it’s your case.
Yes 2 displays. No difference when secondary unplugged. Login screen, enter password → Black screen for ~5 seconds → desktop loaded → open browser → crash after 20-30 seconds, black screen again
I’m sorry that my suggestions are not very helpful.
Maybe the issue has to do with nvidia hw or/and driver, where I’m not expert at all.
Leaving it to others then…
sddm, lightdm, gdm and such.
Actually you may try to install and enable lightdm for example instead of sddm.
Last thing:
But crash happens also if you don’t open the browser?
After some reboots had crashes in both DE. If after entering password there black screen with blinking cursor I assume it will be unstable and reboot through console. I think there was no crashes in the login screen itself.
omlx ships with x11 by default. using wayland means that you are ready to face such issues. my device runs with no problems on wayland yet i execlusively use x11 now beacuse it is the official recommendation and i have no time to spend on wayland shenanigans (when they arise).
