Dead Desktop GUI after login

Hello,

  • OpenMandriva Lx version: 25.03 and 25.04 Rome rolling

  • Desktop environment (KDE, LXQT…): KDE

  • Description of the issue (screenshots if relevant): Yesterday everything was fine. There was an update to version 25.04 waiting which I did NOT touch. Booting up today I get past the login and the desktop loads black. No toolbar. Still have the cursor and little blue light in the corner that responds when the cursor moves there. Can Ctrl+Alt+T into terminal and that’s how I got back to the forum.

I’m using X11. I have Wayland installed but I never use it. In fact I was going to uninstall it but didn’t know which package to uninstall so just left it there.

Tried booting using various kernels and none changed the situation.
Was using version 25.03 but did a proper update through command line hoping it would solve the problem but I am now on v25.04 and the problem persists.

  • Relevant informations (hardware involved, software version, logs or output…):

UHHG! now I am trying to upload the boot journal to this post but I am getting a “Sorry the you are trying to upload is 0 bytes” message.

Will try to upload again in a comment

When you did latest distro-sync?
Run it again right now

sudo dnf clean all ; dnf clean all
sudo dnf distro-sync --refresh --allowerasing 2>&1| tee dsync-log.txt

Ok, had to go to a Live session, clipboard must be broken.

journal-no-GUIdesktop.txt (347.5 KB)

Just ran it… Nothing to do. Complete!

rpm -qa|grep kernel

uname -r

FYI, I also had tried kernel 6.14.0-3 and but have since removed it. The problem still occurs on 6.13.9-3 and 6.13.7-1

[marcos@asusgod-mini ~]$ rpm -qa|grep kernel
lib64absl_kernel_timeout_internal-20250127.1-1.znver1
kernel-firmware-extra-20250324-1.noarch
kernel-firmware-20250324-1.noarch
kernel-desktop-6.13.9-3.znver1
kernel-desktop-6.13.7-1.znver1
[marcos@asusgod-mini ~]$ uname -r
6.13.9-desktop-3omv2590
[marcos@asusgod-mini ~]$

Ok, on the kernel side it looks fine.
Issue must be something else… sry.

Ok, I just made sure what i needed was backed up and then did a fresh install. Although it was usable as it was it wasn’t fully functional.

Always keep backups.
