COM port as /dev/ttyUSB0 are not responding

Hello,

  • OpenMandriva Lx version: ROME 25.01

  • Desktop environment (KDE, LXQT…): Plasma 6

  • Description of the issue (screenshots if relevant): Hi I am trying to use virtual com ports available through USB ports on my mainboard to CAT control my HAM rigs. From hardware side everything is working ok (on Ubuntu/Windows). CAT Control software (flrig and klog) sees available ports from my rigs, but when trying to communicate it just doesn’t work (no error messages beside could not connect). Any Ideas where to look for a cause?

  • Relevant informations (hardware involved, software version, logs or output…): Desktop PC AMD Ryzen 7 7700X, nVidia GeForce RTX 4080, Asus TUF X670E-PLUS

OK, I have got a clue, running flrig as root fix the problem - so it is probably related to some permissions or some assigned group to my user - what is necessary for a user to access /dev/ttyUSBX ?

Try adding the dialout group.

Exactly, it was just that group. Thank you.

No problem. I’m glad to help.

Depending on your use case, you may want to also consider adding yourself to the uucp group. Some of my USB devices won’t work without that one.
