Can't install Skype

Hello,
it is impossible to work with Skype.
I have installed via dnfdragora ‘skype’, but nothing is in the Menu.

What is the matter?

What package did you install? There is one called skype and one called get-skypeforlinux.

Post-edit: The get-skypeforlinux is in non-free repository.

Hello,

i have Skype via ‘flatpak’ installed now.
https://genuine-lamps.com/linux/4296-how-to-install-skype-on-linux.html

Um Skype über Flatpak zum Laufen zu bringen, abonnieren Sie zunächst das Flathub Flatpak-Repo:

sudo flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https://dl.flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepo

Wenn Flathub aktiv ist, installieren Sie einfach die neueste Version von Skype vom Repo auf Ihrem PC.

sudo flatpak install --from https://flathub.org/repo/appstream/com.skype.Client.flatpakref

Skype works fine with this installation.

For user information: get-skypeforlinux is the one to use. The package skype is also an installer for Skype.com but will install an older version of Skype.

Post-edit: The get-skypeforlinux is in non-free repository.

Apologies for so many posts on this. I just realized that I did not fully understand what was asked by @Hanisch .

OM Skype packages are installers only, there is no actual code in these packages. If I install the package skype it installs v. 8.67.0.96, an older version of Skype. This version of Skype opens in a web browser like Falkon or Chromium, (does not work in Firefox). On my system it is in the menu under Internet:

In I install the package get-skypeforlinux it installs v. 8.71.0.36, which is newer but not the latest version of Skype. This version of Skype is the stand alone Skype software. Also on my computer it is in menu under Internet:

If you for some reason do not have a menu entry for this version of Skype you can run it from terminal (Konsole):

$ skypeforlinux

Apologies to our users for confusion around OM Skype packaging. I am askin on IRC developers and will report when I know more. Also will look in to seeing if I can get get-skypeforlinux updated to latest version.

I do not use Skype so I can not verify if Skype itself works. I can only test that the packages will install and opens.

Post-edit: Edited above text to reflect that skype version is a web browser app and the get-skypeforlinux is the stand alone Skype software. Obviously I have been learning as I post on this.

Hello,
I should like to have a Desktop-Icon for ‘skypeforlinux’ - installed via ‘flatpak’ - on my ~/Schreibtisch.
How can I do that?

KDE Menu Editor

Right click on the Application Menu Icon and it is in the context menu. Then drag and drop the new menu item from the menu to your desktop.

Or install get-skypeforlinux and the item will be in the Application Menu under Internet.

Hello,

S o l u t i o n:
$ cp ~/.local/share/plasma_icons/com.skype.Client.desktop ~/Schreibtisch/Skype.desktop
