Can server image be used as a base to build desktop

I do not even know if it is a right place to ask this question, if not please redirect that to a more suitable part / place of this forum.

Can server image be use as a base to build your own desktop.
Yes, I’m aware we have some unofficial spins, but if I understood correctly they are not officially supported, and they are somewhat their own thing.

How much different is a base package set on server and regular iso

It appears to me that you can build your own desktop as found here:

OpenMandriva Rock/ROME for servers is a fully independent and flexible Linux distribution, installable with only the necessary programs for starting a server environment (eg: no GUI, no desktop apps, but you can of course add them later)

(I would imagine that they use the same repositories as the regular images (depending on which image you choose).)

Well, a server will not have a Desktop Environment of any type. You will be starting from the command line. You can do whatever you want from there. Just like an Arch install.

I have to admit. I don’t understand your reasoning for this. You have had daily problems getting things to work and now you want to take the hard route. You thought you had issues before, but I think you are biting off more than you can chew. I wish you the best with it.

You wouldn’t happen to know of any instructions on how to install OM through the command line, would you? I do want to see if I can install a server image inside Termux through (hopefully “through” is the right word here) qemu. \(ツ)/

Anyways, to answer the question, I think you can do this; it would just cause more work/time (obviously, this isn’t always the case), as would pretty much any distrobution when you are installing from the command line rather than the GUI.

Well, that is my bad, I found it.

Here it is for anyone else:

Inside omv’s home directory, you can find a script called install-openmandriva - this script installs the server image to another disk (e.g. if you booted on a USB device on real hardware, and want to install to permanent storage).

Dear @WilsonPhillips all my pervious installation of any Linux were made via chroot and system bootstrap.

If I felt lazy, I use basic text installers. Bulding a system from the “ground level” is not scary.
The scary things happened when you have default full system installed, then you try to remove something. It is way easier to build something up then strip things down.

Can mistakes be made? Yes. Obviously. I will F it up on the first few trays.
I will do a few installs on VM and take notes before I touch my actual hardware.

BTW I’m pretty sure found the reason behind My disappearing man pages problem, I will put relevant logs on this forum. I think I tracked down a package and action responsible for that.
It was not a faulty iso issue. It is combine issue of user action and dependency removal thing.
To make a long story short, removing kde and replacing with anything else breaks a system

Take care
Wilson
