hi all! Another user from Lunduke! Downloading Rome right now, gonna give it a try soon!
Back in time I used the very very first releases of Mandrake
I get bullied everywhere simply for not picking sides - not an even for having a defined opinion… I am sick of politics infiltrating everything,… it wasn’t an issue back then when I got into Linux & now it’s straight up suffocating. Just seeing everyone’s attitude here is a big relief.
Facts. This is my first time ever expressing myself in a community of a distribution, and the people here are really helpful so far!
OpenMandriva is fire… exceeded my expectations: solid + dnf + it’s based. Here to stay.
Bryan Lunduke also brought me here. Thank you for making a stand against discrimination that is seemingly everywhere, I think it’s incredibly important in current times.
Because of that I installed OM Rome + Plasma 6 as soon as I could and WOW. The installation was absolutely flawless and lightning fast, it caught me off guard haha.
First impressions are fantastic. I think I’ll be staying here for a good while. Thank you for not hating me and clearly focusing on the code, as Lunduke puts it
Same for me. I thought Mandrivia was abandoned. Glad to see it is still going. My first “real” distro (aside from a small debian install do via floppies) was a Mandrake edition I bought at Walmart. First impressions in a VM look really good.
Here from Lunduke Journal as well. Migrated from Debian (Sid) to OpenMandriva. I am using the ROME edition and very much loving it so far.
Welcome. Welcome to all the new folks. If I have trouble keeping up I can legitimately blame it on age or is that we aren’t used to this and are in an adjustment period. I like the second one better…
Here comes another from Lunduke! I loved Mandriva years ago, and I’m excited that OpenMandriva is around and I’m looking forward to getting to know it! I think you are going to get a lot of new users from this. I’m sure that seeing this influx of new users is concerning for some of you, but just know that we are not looking for an OS that supports or doesn’t support any sort of ideology. It’s simply that we are normal people that want to find something, ANYTHING, to use and help with that is made by people that don’t openly tell normal, intelligent people that they hate us and don’t want us as users. Believe it or not, that is becoming very difficult to find.
Not really concerning but unexpected, and we are pleasantly surprised and happy.
A hyper land spin of this distro would be the ultimate anti-political combo.
Thank you! it’s just that simple, true tolerance means respecting others’ believes and opinions, not bullying them for not sharing those one thinks are the better ones. When it comes to this new politicised world, I find myself on nobody’s “side” on many issues - on most - i don’t even have a basis to judge anyone - but even that was also a point of contention in the Linux communities I was part of. Im interested in foss, not politics in general. Kudos for having common sense and a clear concept of respect.
Same experience on install, impressive from the get-go… 5 days on, & honest, all I can say is OM is fire! Wish I had discovered it before, Tumbleweed was good, but not this good.
Sì or Ya or Da or Yes.
Glad to see all those new people
I’m using OpenMandriva ROME from the moment it became available around this time of year last year on my 2nd PC (on my main I use Arch). It is slower rolling but it’s really nice, being independent and community-based like Arch, the people here are very friendly, and it definitely needs some more exposure and why not more contributors and maintainers in the future if you all stay and support this nice distro and its people, because it has some bumps but with a bit of tolerance and your feedback it will become even better.
Lunduke’s review of OpenMandriva is excellent, if anyone wants to know what all the fuss is about, look him up on Rumble.
A lot to like! After a long test drive in a Live session, I installed the Xfce spin of ROME today on a second HDD, wiping away MX-Linux. OpenMandriva has become my go-to Linux. My other OS (on a different drive) is GhostBSD. The similarities are great! Except that OM has more of the cool tools I got used to on MX-Linux.
Lunduke is right about the one downside: Downloading! Very strange to jump through all those hoops, but certainly well worth the trouble. Thanks so much!
Welcome!
A better way of doing this is being discussed as we speak. Thank you for giving us a chance, despite the setbacks.
I knew we would have several people show up, but I never expected so many of us. Add to that, the ones who came to the forums are maybe one in ten. Most people don’t make contact unless they have to do so.
For someone who draws as much hate from corporations as Lunduke does, he sure has a following of fans. He covers topics that they say are verboten, and we love him for it.
