Brave browser crashes randomly. Chromium too!

For me brave runs stable on two machines running Rome - one znver and one x64. Only time I had Brave crashing constantly was when I ran out of disk space on my home partition.

No issues here with Brave, and I use it extensively. I only have one OM install so far; working on a migration plan for several other machines.

Last night, I installed kernel-server-6.14.2-3.znver1 to test it as a possible fix for this issue. After numerous crashes, I can safely say, “No, it doesn’t fix it.” Chromium based browsers still crash with it.

I still have no idea what causes this. I have two PCs running here. Both use znver1 and only one of them crashes.

There is a good number of bugreports against kwalled in KDE bugzilla (example).
The package in cooker is already fixed. Still to check if it will resolve also Brave and Chromium issues.

Just as an fyi… Fresh install of znver1 on an 6900s with a 6700 discrete. Happens exactly as you have described it. A couple of crashes, then it’s completely stable.
Kind of feels like the chromium browser has a “safe” mode or “safer” mode that it tries on the second attempt.

Did anyone ever figure this out? I get random crashes usually right after boot up on Brave, I’m on x86_64.

Looking at the crash dump with stackwalker it always seems the thread that crashes is libglib-2.0.so.0

Problem with an OM package?

It started around the time kernel 6.13 was released and affects Chromium, as well. We would need to know which release you are using.

Running on i3 window manager.

I use chromium and get the same console output.

Good news: I can consistently reproduce the issue :partying_face: Just open the extensions page (chrome://extensions). I get an instant crash, 100% of the times.

Bad news: I cannot install any extensions :sob:
