Another New user I guess

Hey I am new to OpenMandriva so far it looks like the community is very nice. I switched to Linux like 2-3 months ago on all my computers. Which has been really fun and I have learned a lot. Currently I have switched to OpenMandriva on my laptop not my main computer to see if I like it. I have two quick questions.

  1. Does i3 work well?
    I prefer i3 over a DE

  2. Does it have good NVIDIA support for gaming?
My main computer sadly has an nvidia GPU. I mainly play games and code on my PC.

Thank you guys in advance!

Hello and welcome! Hopefully, you end up end up really enjoying OM and stick around for a while

As for your questions, you should be able to install and use i3. If I remember correctly, someone just posted solid step-by-step guide of how to replace plasma with i3 in the forum last week. You should be able to do a search to find it.

As for nvidia, from what I gather, OM is similar in their support as other distros. I do know that nvidia GPUs don’t really get along as well with Wayland…so you should likely stick with x11. There are other users, though, who have more experience with nvidia GPUs than me, so I’ll leave it to them to provide more specifics :+1:

Here’s that link to the i3 guide: https://forum.openmandriva.org/t/how-to-install-i3-on-openmandriva-lx-rock/7640?u=schappellshow

Thank you very much!

I’ll try a dual boot and see if it works
