A little rant

In relation to Manpages probable bug man (paths problem).

I can live without a lot of things / elements in my Linux system as long as info pages and man pages work. Those are crucial elements for someone who wants to be able to find relevant information about cli tools, without continues web browsing or asking around what do what.

My man pages and info pages do not work at all. And that’s beyond annoying.
I asked, I searched for clues all in wain. That is said

Did you do the fresh install with a good ISO like you said you were going to do?

grafi, @bero told you that the man pages were not in your $PATH

Have you added them? Here is an example of how they are done. The individual PATHs are separated by a colon.

~/.bash_profile

PATH=$PATH:$HOME/.local/bin:$HOME/scripts:/usr/share/man/en

export PATH

Every single issue you have had has been addressed. You have NOTHING to complain about. :grinning:

You will most likely find the original PATH in
~/.bash_profile
and you simply add to it there. If you copied from my example, you may need to change the language at the end.

:/usr/share/man/xx

my current path is

bash: /usr/libexec/man-db/:/usr/share/man/pl:/usr/libexec/man-db/:/home/kuba/.local/bin:/home/kuba/.local/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/local/games:/usr/games

I added those two whose missing from the path

 /usr/libexec/man-db/:/usr/share/man/pl

l to the path via bashrc
reload bashrc
restart PC the error message is dot to dot bug for bug same as before.

I admit my ranting was stupid, and I didn’t register Bero advice about the path on a spot, which was a mistake that comes god knows from where or what. Especially considering the fact the advice, likewise a solution was obvious. But it still do not work.

That is avery last line of my bashrc

export PATH="/usr/libexec/man-db/:/usr/share/man/pl:$PATH"

Either i have some syntax error in it or something else is wrong

Put this in your ~/.bash_profile and remove the other from ~/.bashrc

PATH=$PATH:$HOME/.local/bin:/usr/libexec/man-db/:/usr/share/man/pl:/usr/libexec/man-db/:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/local/games:/usr/games

export PATH

See if that works. Are you still running on the failed test ISO, or did you do a fresh install with the released ISO?

I won’t be back for several hours.

All work now.
It’s crazy, after all updates there should not be an issue with man, even if I work with this rejected iso. Errors should be erased by upgrades. And a “should” is is definitely keyword here
My opinion on man error has been solidified by running a fresh installation of rock using the official accepted iso on a virtual machine. The issue or bug was right-down identical, like on my main machine.

Yet when I made clean installation on my main pc as a last resort action before hopelessly and frankly sadly switching to some other distro, all of a sudden everything works. What a day!
Updates probably won’t update everything.

I’m happy, like I’m getting a cookie or something. I’m staying.

RAVE AS FUCK
SUPER P does not work on kde 6.3.4 but honestly F that, that’s a minor issue. I have just set all my monitors as permanently on.

There are configs that get done on an install and no updates will ever change them. That’s a good thing. If updates set everything back to defaults, we could not talk people into doing their updates.

Super+p is a KDE thing and they are aware of it. It is out of our hands.

Understood

That has happened to my friend on bsd … server on update in some file separator was changed from , to ; It took him ages to locate the issue and quite a while to fix this. He almost lost his job by that.

You can spend weeks trying to figure out a problem, or be back up and running in a few hours with a fresh install. This is why I have good backups.

This thread does not make clear if this problem was resolved and if so how it was resolved? Could someone please illuminate us?

Please mark the post with the fix, Solved.

It’s in Coffee break. I don’t see check boxes

@ben79 can move it to Support and mark the post with the dancing penguin. I don’t have the ability to move it.

I’d say, duplicate the reply in the support thread and mark it there. The title here and the multiple topics don’t really suit Support
