You’re right. I love XFCE and Mate too.
I have been thinking about this as well. As long as I can theme it, I like Xfce and MATE really well (because I can turn compositor off, unlike Cinnamon). LXDE is a bit old, so is Openbox, though I have considered that last one since a friend has a nice and working project with it, though it is a really old window manager, so I don’t think OMA would ship with that.
I am currently in the process of testing the alpha isos of Xfce cooker with Xlibre. I tested the KDE Plasma cooker version, on bare metal, and it crashes around 1:30 min of being in the desktop. I ended up removing KDE from that and installing Xfce with Lightdm, but I want to test a pure Xfce iso to avoid the Plasma leftovers.
wow thanks for this, very insightful!
The why is the rub. Red Hat and other large corporations conspired to lock down X.ORG improvements because those improvements would break the Wayland <> X translation layer. That’s the true insanity here, Wayland set out to replace X and isn’t even compatible without a portal to a locked version.
Had they not locked X.org development, would Wayland still be superior?
The way they got there is the problem. And without the locked X.org development, you’d not be saying Wayland is “superior”.
Yup if You actively block development of project A after a while project b will become superrior no matter how bad it is. It is like I wanna rice with you in the 100m race. But before we run I will break your leg and tell everybody you break it your self and now you are just whining about
Long live to Open Mandriva!
The developers of XLibre need money to accelerate development. I don’t know how to program, and I’m broke.
Os desenvolvedores do XLibre precisam de dinheiro para acelerar o desenvolvimento. Eu não sei programar e estou sem dinheiro.
Los desarrolladores de XLibre necesitan dinero para acelerar el desarrollo. No sé programar y no tengo dinero.
Wayland is just weird. Using window separation as a security feature is nonsense. If I wanted to hack a Linux PC, I wouldn’t use the GUI. The GUI would not be the target of my attack. Also, if I’m in front of the computer, I don’t need a password. I have physical access to the keyboard and Grub. So basically, I’m in God Mode now.
