Please Please Please BACKUP

As you have seen there is a MAJOR update for ROME. And while I realize I’ve been mostly (ok almost totally) AWOL on the testing, helping here in the forum, etc.

To (hopefully) save yourself some headaches if there is a problem Please Please Please BACKUP first.

Backup your data and backup your system. If you’re using btrfs make snapshots (your data is in a subvolume, right?).

Using a (FOSS) tool like Foxclone to make a disk image is the easiest and best way to do that - especially for an update of this size.

As always, the (paid) tool that (I’ve found) works best for this is from Terabyte

Hopefully I’ll be back this soon (been a challenging summer…)

For those wanting to use snapshots, there are existing tutorials for Timeshift (my preference) and Snapper.

Even if you don’t use BTRFS you can do snapshots with Timeshift. They take a bit longer and more space but still do the job.

I have used snapshots on OM to roll back failed updates (not that this update should fail, it has been thoroughly tested, but stuff happens). It’s definitely a good option on an update this big that touches this many things.
