I'm coming back

I am installing OM Rome right now. Lots to do, but I will be ready as soon as I can.

I left because of personal difference with someone who is now gone. It’s all water under the bridge and I will not hold grudges. All is forgiven.

I see that the forum is not very active anymore. I don’t know how many people have left or exactly why some left, but I sure would like to see this place be as busy as it used to be. Maybe we can get Lunduke to help with that. I know he monitors the place as a user, but I don’t know if he is a member on the forum. I am also sending a few DMs out to some whom are missing.

Give me a week or so to get my PC in order.

I continue to lurk here, though not a user of OMLx anymore. I stopped using OMLx because the Brave crashes just wouldn’t stop. Too bad, because I wanted to keep using OMLx.

I’m glad you’re back…I was wondering where you went.

Glad to have you back Wilson, and yes, the forums and matrix is pretty slow. I think some of it is because OM really just does work, And there relly hasnt been much for updates in quite a while. My kid does all kinds of stuff with streaming and screen sharing, discord and making videos for youtube and it just works for him. It works so well he has been using it for a year and still doesnt even know how linux works.

I used to have a problem with that, while my kid did not. Its the weirdest thing as we have almost the same computer. I recently did a fresh install with the latest Rome and I dont seem to have a problem anymore.

I did not know that was still an issue. I am on ROME with Brave Origin this morning and so far, I see no issues. I will try to remember to post about it. This PC was one that crashed Brave constantly.

I experienced the Brave crash issue a few times, but it seems to have disappeared from my system. Many months now without a crash.

That being said, I notice that my system is almost constantly reading/writing to my hdd, seems to be Plasma related, and the sys monitor doesn’t accurately show it. Even with a torrent client running, it doesn’t show the app accessing the disk. Mildly annoying, but not a big deal.

On the topic of Brave, there is now Brave Origin. It still does the ad blocking and such, but there is no crypto or ai, etc. It is a one time fee to license it on Windows, but FREE ON LINUX!

I am using it on ROME right now and it is working well.

That’s very good to hear. Brave crashes were the only reason I stopped using OMLx.

Well, to be fair, I have no idea if it’s still an issue or not. I haven’t used OMLx in well over a year now. Hopefully you have a good experience with Brave like @LinNoob . Do let me know, because I want to come back to OMLx!

I appreciate you letting me know about your Brave experiences. It’s sounding like Brave crashes might not be a thing anymore. Nice!

If I still had moderator power, I would open this thread and see if people are still having the issue. I am looking and no one is reporting any issues.

Just checked. This thread is 1+ year old, IMO it would not be a great idea
Users can always start a new topic providing a link to it if needed.

I realized that I did not yet officially send you a very warm welcome back @WilsonPhillips

I have done some searching and I don’t see anyone calling out for help with it crashing. That was a long time ago now.

I’m running on generator power and luckily I have 5G internet. A power pole got broken about a kilometer from here. Looking at 8 hours downtime today. Had two days in a row last week with no power for 6 to 8 hours. I just installed a small window AC for just this purpose 2 days ago, and it is HOT outside. It won’t cool the house, but it is blowing cold air on me.

I have found the ABF and have a link to that bookmarked. Still need the repos.

There are so many programs that I used and can’t remember the names of them. It’s been too long.

Did you quit Linux entirely for all this time? Or stop using a computer?

I had a huge 5k monitor and the linux drivers for the Intel B580 would not support it, so I went back to Windows 11. I don’t have that monitor now. It did not last 6 months. Junk. I have Win 11 stripped down and it worked well for me.

When I left here, I did go back to Tumbleweed Slowroll, but my heart just wasn’t in it.
