Description of the issue (screenshots if relevant):
If I open the firewall config app (not the plamsa version for System Settings), I am noticing items I selected to be allowed through the firewall are no longer enabled.
For instance, I KNOW I had nmb, samba, and sane enabled but now they no longer are.
Relevant informations (hardware involved, software version, logs or output…):
“Firewalld does not remember selections of allowed services or ports if changes are not made permanent. To make changes permanent, you need to use the --permanent option when adding services or ports.”
So is the Firewall Configuration app not doing any kind of --permanent flag when selections to be allowed are checked?
Oops. I am going to leave these posts here in case someone else is battling this and is not seeing what I just found. There is nothing wrong with Firewalld. This is by design.
You have to change the Configuration at the top left of the Firewall Configuration window from RUNTIME to PERMANENT if you want changes to remain.
This is actually a really cool feature. You have an app that is being blocked by Firewalld. You leave it on RUNTIME and check boxes you think might be the issue until you find the right ones. Now you can go to PERMANENT and make those selections stay.
I’ve noticed similar things with firewall settings getting reset or not showing the way I expected after updates. Does the Plasma firewall settings page show the same state, or is it only happening in the standalone firewall app? That might help narrow down whether the rules are actually being removed or just not displayed correctly.
