There are web sites currently doing that. How easy is it for a minor to defeat that logic?
Lie about their age when confronting those questions. The leftists believe that putting up an age verification page will somehow stop a teenage boy with normal levels of hormones for a teenage boy. I am 100% convinced that psychotic man-hating women and their soy-based men come up with this failed logic.
I can’t think of the movie’s title, but back in the 1980s there was one where a teen boy goes into a pharmacy to buy condoms “for his dad.” The movie takes place in the 1950s. odds are, there was most likely some law prohibiting teenagers from accessing condoms. The teen convinces the pharmacist that his dad can’t come to the store because of some lame excuse the teen invents. The pharmacist sells the condoms anyway, figuring he did his part to comply with the law.
The same applies to alcohol. 45 years ago Wisconsin had a drinking age of 18. Illinois was 21. What did Illinois teenagers do? Drive to Wisconsin, buy alcohol at the grocery store, and head back home. Surrounding states pressured Wisconsin into raising the age to be the same as everyone else, 21. Did it solve the problem? No. Wisconsin grocery stores still sold alcohol to anyone old enough to drive “because my parents sent me because they are busy and are having a party with the relatives this weekend.” The running joke was the unofficial legal drinking age in Wisconsin was old enough to walk to the parents’ root cellar (cold down there), grab a bottle of beer, open it, and start drinking. So did that law work? Not really.
The unofficial legal age to drive was old enough to reach the pedals. Growing up, we had kids well under age 16 driving farm pickup trucks (me), hauling whatever to where it needed to go. Just stay off the state and county highways and stick to the local gravel roads where the local town board had jurisdiction. Funny thing is my two younger brothers and myself never put the truck into the ditch. But my brother-in-law, who didn’t grow up on a farm, managed to flip his new-to-him pickup truck into the ditch before he made it to age 21 because “deer.” We believe he was going too fast on gravel and without proper tires. So how did that law work out? It didn’t once you got outside most any incorporated city or village. In rural villages, the local law enforcement looked the other way if you were going to the feed mill, grain dryers, co-op, livestock auction barn, or fertilizer storage shed.
The only people doing any punishing would be the state of California, who are punishing their citizens already. People in California can still use MidnightBSD, its just that they’ll be in violation of the TOS, for which, I’m sure, midnightBSD will do nothing.
“We’re currently looking into how to implement an API that will comply with the laws while also not being a privacy disaster,” says Aaron Rainbolt, Ubuntu Community Council Member.
Fuckers from canonical wants to add this verification crap in to dbus
so lots of people will recive this “blessing” wanted or not. F them.
Question is how to owertrown this while beeing a linux distro. If we take bsd licence you can put anything there.
This software is prohibited for use if a user eat tomatos. OK now you cant legally use given software if you ever eat tomato.
But what with linux whuch is based on gpl
That’s based on a misunderstanding on how D-Bus works. D-Bus is essentially just a messenger that sends a message from process A to process B and an answer back. It doesn’t care what the content of the message is, and doesn’t implement “standard messages”.
Instead, a number of daemons (or, in this case, demons) sit on top of it and define the type of messages that can be sent.
So this won’t be patched directly into dbus, but it will be another d(a)emon that sits on top of it, much like the loads we already have (polkit, networkmanager, powerdevil, …..).
Knowing some of those involved (and in particular the fact that they want to use the “org.freedesktop” namespace – always a bad indication), they will probably not release it as a new “age-verification” process, but embed it inside something that is already widely established and used by many. Possibly polkit, given one could argue that someone might want to keep minors away from root permissions on school systems or something.
But it won’t be in dbus itself. And we’ll make sure nothing privacy violating goes into OM just because “free”desktop says it should.
My current thinking is to allow something like the minimalist “essentially do nothing” implementation I was proposing earlier, but certainly nothing that goes further by requiring a government identity check or crazy stuff like that.
There can be no doubt that there is a concerted effort to enshittify FOSS. We can see it with an eagerness on the part of many to comply with insane legislation, unnecessary rewriting of existing software in Rust, enthusiasm for corporate sponsored projects like Wayland, hostility toward existing FOSS projects like X11 and XLibre, etc.
Another possibility is to comment out a few choice lines of the source code, so that the source code has to be run through a sort of sieve, uncommenting the lines of code in question. Until that step is completed, in can be successfully argued that it isn’t an OS or legit software at all until that process is complete, because if you compile and run it as is, it won’t do anything but crash or hang, or maybe spit out a message like “Fuck California!”
Brazil will do what it wants. It won’t be the first country. Totalitarian countries China and North Korea have already gone down that road. Brazil is playing “monkey see, monkey do.”
I don’t know about all countries. Millei over in Argentina seems to have a strong libertarian streak in him. He just exposed the opposition, again.
From what I see in the alternative news sources, Poland and Hungary have strong libertarian-leaning leaders as well. Amazing what growing up with mandatory communist economic and social disasters will do to people once the communists are disposed of. Rumor has it that all German industry is packing up and moving east to Poland, where people are not demanding more insane government regulations.
Venezuela? I don’t believe Chavez and Maduro were ever elected legitimately. There may now be hope for those people if they are willing to work at it.
Cuba? The currently running memes are showing how Cuba is begging for President Trump to please bomb certain government buildings in Havana. If true or not, I don’t know. The smart Cubans got out 65 years ago.
Hello, fortunately, OM is based in France and Europe and must comply with the European GDPR on privacy.
California law clearly conflicts with this, as it does not guarantee fundamental privacy rights to users.
I feel sorry for the residents of California.
Being a Brazilian anarcho-capitalist. This is just stupidity and all about trying to control the people, since lately things haven’t been the way authoritarian idiots want things to go. And yes I know, i’m using too many “bad words”, but its the truth.
And since is, somewhat related, in Brazil we just don’t give a F. We pirate stuff and we have been doing that way since ever.
Just like in the good old Soviet Union, where the black market officially never existed, but was the only way the people could survive the totalitarian government.
Wouldn’t it be interesting if a black market suddenly popped up in California, Colorado, and any other blue state in response to the totalitarian government that was installed via election fraud? One thing is certain. As much as I don’t like the public VPN service providers, they would have an instantly manufactured market in those blue states. But then I have to wonder, are the VPN service providers in on it? Crony capitalism strikes again?
Should be interesting to find out who has the bigger lawyers, California or the EU. Worst case, the EU courts decide California is correct and there goes the privacy laws out the window.
I am convinced that this California law has nothing to do with protecting children. Quite the opposite. It is to enable the pedophiles. Fresno, California:
Now that looks like some of the truck stop trash that would hang out at truck stops over on the four wheeler side of the building, looking for an easy target. Trouble for those pedophiles is there was always at least one truck driver around looking out for the children. Pedophiles could also be found out back behind the truck parking lot, under or behind a trailer. Before moving, look under the truck and trailer to make sure there is none of that being used as a trailer wheel chock placed there by another truck driver.
I saw a meme (that I can no longer find), that showed a salesman selling “Total Surveillance”, asking “How do you want this packaged?”, with choices of “Protect the Children!”, or “Freedom and Patriotism!”
I just want to throw in my two cents and use it to remind everybody that hems and haws or worries about any arbitrary and stupid law. Just remember that any government, good (if thats possible) or bad only has as much, if any, authority as it’s people give it. Just because some people write down something on paper and declare it is a law and that everybody else must follow it or else doesnt make it “right”.
Every individual has the right and duty to decide for themselves if they will choose to follow the law or to give others the authority to enforce it over them.
Can that cause violence and even harm to yourself? Yes, of course it can. The only real way to make governments and actual real fascists not do these kinds of things is to just simply stand up to them and not even acknowledge their assertion of “authority” over you.
Another reminder, you will only ever have the rights that you are willing to defend and fight to maintain. Do not ever give them an inch on any of them. Ever.
